Alloy 330 (UNS N08330) is an austenitic nickel-iron-chromium alloy developed to provide excellent resistance to carburizing and oxidizing atmospheres at elevated temperatures.  With a nickel content of 34 to 37 percent, the alloy remains highly resistant to both chloride stress corrosion cracking and embrittlement from the precipitation of sigma phase.  It is readily fabricated using standard procedures for stainless steel and nickel alloys.  The alloy is used extensively in elevated temperatures where resistance to the combined effects of thermal cycling and carburization is required.

The high nickel and chromium content provides excellent resistance to both oxidation and carburization. The oxidation resistance is also enhanced by the silicon content of the alloy. The alloy performs well under cyclic conditions of heating and cooling and in alternate carburizing and oxidizing atmospheres.

Alloy 330 offers a high level of corrosion resistance, particularly to oxidation, carburization, and nitridation. It is readily fabricated using standard procedures for stainless steels and nickel alloys. The alloy is used extensively in elevated temperature atmospheres where resistance to the combined effects of thermal cycling and carburization is required.

Alloy 20 (UNS N08020) is an austenitic, nickel-iron-chromium based super alloy with additions of Copper and Molybdenum which provide resistance to hostile environments, pitting, and crevice corrosion. It is also stabilized with Columbium to minimize carbide precipitation during welding. Alloy 20 appears to fall between both the stainless and nickel categories as it contains characteristics of both. It was designed for maximum resistance to acid attack and demonstrates superior resistance to stress-corrosion cracking in boiling 20% to 40% sulfuric acid, and also has excellent general corrosion resistance to sulfuric acid and to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Alloy 20 has good mechanical properties at both ambient and elevated temperatures, up to approximately

Alloy 20, also known as Carpenter 20, is a nickel-iron-chromium austenitic alloy that was developed for maximum resistance to acid attack, specifically sulfuric acid. This superalloy has excellent resistance to general corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion in chemicals containing chlorides and sulfuric, phosphoric, and nitric acids. It also contains niobium for stabilization against sensitization and resultant intergranular corrosion.

Carpenter 20 combines excellent corrosion resistance with elevated mechanical properties and relatively easy fabrication.

Alloy 400 (UNS N04400) is a ductile nickel-copper alloy with resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions. The alloy is most frequently specified in environments ranging from mildly oxidizing through neutral, and in moderately reducing conditions. An additional application area of the material is in marine environments and other nonoxidizing chloride solutions. The alloy has a long history of use as a corrosion resistant material, dating back to the early twentieth century when it was developed as an attempt to use a high copper content nickel ore. The nickel and copper contents of the ore were in the approximate ratio which is now formally specified for the alloy.

As with commercially pure nickel, Alloy 400 is low in strength in the annealed condition. For this reason, a variety of tempers are used which have the effect of increasing the strength level of the material.Alloy 400 is more corrosion resistant than commercially pure Nickel (UNS N02200) under reducing conditions, and more resistant than refined copper alloys under oxidizing conditions.

In moderately reducing acids, neutral or alkaline solutions, Alloy 400 may be considered for use. The alloy is resistant to most alkalies, salts, organic substances and atmospheric conditions. Alloy 400 is a consideration for cooler alkaline caustic conditions, although high temperature, high stress and high concentrations of caustic have produced caustic stress corrosion cracking in the material. The alloy is used in reducing acids like sulfuric and hydrochloric, especially in the absence of aeration and oxidizing species.

Alloy 825 (UNS N08825) is an austenitic nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of molybdenum, copper and titanium. It was developed to provide exceptional corrosion resistance in both oxidizing and reducing environments. The alloy is resistant to chloride stress-corrosion cracking and pitting. The addition of titanium stabilizes Alloy 825 against sensitization in the as-welded condition making the alloy resistant to intergranular attack after exposure to temperatures in a range that would sensitize un-stabilized stainless steels. The fabrication of Alloy 825 is typical of nickel-base alloys, with material being readily formable and weldable by a variety of techniques

Alloy 625 (UNS N06625) is an austenitic nickel base superalloy possessing excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion over a broad range of corrosive conditions, including jet engine environments and in many other aerospace and chemical process applications. The alloy has outstanding strength and toughness at temperatures ranging from cryogenic temperature to 2000°F (1093°C). Alloy 625 also has exceptional fatigue resistance.

Alloy 625 derives its strength from the solid solution strengthening effects of molybdenum and columbium on the nickel-chromium matrix. These elements also contribute to the alloy’s outstanding corrosion resistance. Although the alloy was developed for high temperature strength, its highly alloyed composition provides a high level of general corrosion resistance to a wide range of oxidizing and nonoxidizing environments. The levels of chromium and molybdenum provide excellent resistance to chloride ion pitting and the high level of nickel provides resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking.

Alloy 625 can be produced by vacuum induction melting or AOD refining. Consumable electrode remelting procedures may be used to further refine the material.
