S275 is an unalloyed low carbon mild steel grade supplied as hot rolled. As a low carbon steel specifications S275 provides low strength with good machinability and is suitable for welding. S275 was first introduced in 1990 by the European Committiee for Iron and Steel Standardisation, The steel was first specified in the EN10025 standard and later published in the UK by the British Standards Institure (BSI) as BS EN 10025 S275 & S275JR. The new grade superceded the previous British Standard BS 4360 43A which has now been offically withdrawn. The average minimum yield for this material is 275 N/mm², hence the name S275.

S275 is a very popular low carbon steel grade suitable for numerous general engineering and structural applications. Supplied as a hot rolled non alloy steel it is used widely in the construction, maintenance and manufacturing industries.

S275 is not ideally suited to hardening, though it can be subjected to limited heat treatment process such as case hardening. When hardening S275 heat treatment temperatures, including rate of heating, cooling and soaking times will vary due to factors such as the shape and size of each component. Other considerations during the heat treatment process include the type of furnace, quenching medium and work piece transfer facilities. Please consult your heat treatment provider for full guidance on heat treatment of S275 carbon steel.

S235 structural steel Plate is a common carbon structural steel that can be used in a very broad range of fabrication processes. With minimum yield strength of 33 ksi at 16mm, this Plate has excellent formability but is limited in applications requiring higher weight-bearing structural specifications.

S235 Steel Plate meets as per EN 10025: 2004 European Norms. This Steel Plate is a Common Carbon Steel Plate with Minimum Yiled Strength of 235MPA. A structural grade (S) with at minimum yield strength of 235 N/mm²m, the JR designation confirms that the steel has undergone longitudinal Chary V-Notch impact testing at 27J (Joules) at room temperature.

S235AR
A structural grade (S) with the same minimum yield strength of 235 N/mm²m, but supplied in an ‘as rolled condition’.
S235 has good high yield and tensile strength though this strength suffers if the material is heat treated at temperatures exceeding 600°C

A572 is a high strength low alloy steel plate used in a variety of structural applications. It is produced in Grades 42, 50, 60 & 65—the grades representing the yield strength. The most common grade Triton stocks is Grade 50 which is produced up to 4” thick. Anything over 4” is made to a Grade 42, although we often stock it modified to reach the 50 ksi min yield. On requirements for this please inquire.

Grade 50 is a high strength, low alloy steel that finds its best application where there is need for more strength per unit of weight. Less of this material is needed to fulfill given strength requirements than is necessary with regular carbon steels. Grade 50 is used in general plate applications when the plate will be riveted, bolted, or welded. Grade 50 is a Columbium-Vanadium steel that offers a minimum yield of 50,000 PSI. In addition, ASTM A572 Grade 50 is noted for its increased resistance to atmospheric corrosion. Grade 50 contains more alloying elements than plain carbon steel and thus is somewhat more difficult to form. Grade 50 is more difficult to cold work, but can be successfully bent or shaped but requires more force than plain carbon steel.

API 2H Grade 50 is an offshore steel grade which is regulated by the American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS). Whilst originally designed as a structural steel for use in the welded construction of offshore platforms, the material is also used in other applications due to the tight controls placed on the chemical composition of the steel at the mill stage.

The primary use of API 2H Grade 50 is in critical areas of the construction where good impact and fatigue resistance is required. API 2H Grade 50 can be found in stiffened plate construction, tubular joints, and other intersections where parts of the plates are subjected to through-thickness tension.

The steel is also used as a piling material for bridge construction due to its fracture, vibration and torque resistance. API 2H Grade 50 is therefore not only in effective material for floating and rigid offshore platform construction, it also has other uses as a high yield and highly specified structural grade material.
